What began in the mid-2010s with the series "student congress: packaging, environment, future" for students at universities with training courses in packaging technology and design is now continued in invitations to lectures at renowned university institutes such as the Institute for Packaging Technology and Sustainability at the HTWK Leipzig, headed by Professor Eugen Herzau, or the Institute for Plastics and Circular Technology at the Leibniz University of Hanover, headed by Professor Hans-Josef Endres: Green Dot experts inform students in lectures about the current state of sorting and recycling technology, especially for plastics, about developments in packaging design, ways to measure the recyclability of packaging and the link to obligations from EU and German packaging legislation. Because the latter in particular will increasingly influence practical work in the field of packaging technology and design, e.g. through specifications on recyclability and the use of recycled materials.
As an innovation driver of the circular economy for packaging, Green Dot recognised the importance of sustainable packaging design early on and consciously supports the universities. "This is where the packaging professionals of tomorrow study. Our goal is to teach them to think 'in terms of recyclable materials' when it comes to packaging. And that these can be recovered if recyclability is already considered in the packaging design. This is especially important for plastic packaging because recyclability can reduce the consumption of non-renewable raw materials," says Andreas Kappel, Head of Commercial Business at Green Dot. He and his staff are regular speakers at the event.
